Six Telecoms Join Hands for Trans-Pacific Optical Network

Chunghwa Telecom of Taiwan, China Telecom, China Netcom, China Unicom, Korean Telecom, and US-based Verizon have signed a cooperation agreement in Beijing on December 18, whereby they will invest US$ 500 million to construct a terabit optical network, connecting Taiwan, China, Korea, and the United States. Construction of this network is scheduled to begin in early 2007 and to be completed in the third quarter of 2008.
